'IRELAND IN COLOUR' : France, 2004
The Emerald Isle is well known for its rolling green
landscapes, lively bars and friendly folk. It’s
‘the land of a thousand welcomes’. But this small
island is also a place of colourful extremes changing
by the minute. Ireland can, on most days, be a photographer’s
dream. Being a first stop for the westerly winds
and a barrier to the Atlantic the elements have
washed and carved a wealth of beauty. You can almost
feel the land smile when the sun breaks through
the clouds to breathe life to wet ground, granite
shelves or limestone mountain slopes.
This collection is a unique glimpse into the land that has inspired scores of poets, musicians and artists. The exhibition was held over a period of three weeks from 12 to 30 June 2004, in the medieval village of Le Dorat in Central France at the invitation of the Maire’s (Mayor’s) office. Hundreds of people visit Le Dorat for one of the oldest examples of Romanesque church architecture in France. The Celtic connection between France and Ireland is both a historical and respected one and one which prompted the careful selection of these pieces for this exhibition.
